Short Little Trail Run

Recently due to my IT band pain I have been taking a lot of shorter runs in the 5-8k range.  At these distances my dogs can usually come with me as they did tonight.  Managed to get out before the mist came in so it was quite nice out on the trail.

Seeming how I am awaiting my actual "Trail Shoes" I usually run in my Saucony Kinvara's when it is dry.  Really they have done quite well on the trail and provide adequate grip going over rocks and I feel super agile due to the light weight.  Tonight though I wore my tanks, my $30 Reebok so called trail shoes.  Figured it was going to be a little wet on the trail and I didn't feel like sticking to the groomed track so best wear the heavy lugs.

Starting out I felt great and the legs felt light.  Although here there are not any really large climbs some are short and relatively steep I handled them quite easily.  It wasn't until I got to the top of the Bayer's Lake trail at the Old Mill lookout that I realized I forgot my IT Band compression strap.  Oops!  As anyone who has IT Band pain you know that the ups are ok it is the downs that kick your rear end.  Well today I got lucky, flew down most of the hill, until the end.  I really need to not be so conservative when the trail gets a little crazy.  Soon I think I will just let loose and try flying a few times.  Maybe it is because the one time I did I found myself on my back.

Anyways here is a pic of my dog Jet at the lookout.  He loves the single track but hates the groomed.  Can't blame him.

Soon I will get to posting some of my recipes.  No pics of our meal tonight but we had an awesome portabella mushroom burger.  Nothing fancy just tossed it in the pan with some vegan margarine, added some garlic mayo to some toast, and topped it off with a tomato.  Yummy!
